QuayQuip were asked by the customer, Transport for London, and consultants Royal Haskoning and Buro Happold to design and manufacture floating barriers to protect the northern terminus and one pylon of the new Emirates Air Line cable car in London. URS conducted a Cat 3 check.
The northern barrier was designed to protect against significant collisions without intruding on the visual environment of the dock basin. The robust – and completely watertight – floating steel structure is free to move with changes in water level.
Its guide piles will also disperse much of the energy of any collision directly into the bed of the basin.
